High Tech Coatings GOLD Ceramic Thermal Barrier provides unrivaled thermal protection to piston crowns, combustion chambers, valve heads etc. The coating helps better oxidize the fuel thus leading to an increase in both Horsepower and Efficiency and a decrease in detonation. This coating moves heat as heat conducts better across the coating than through it. The thin film of the coating provides a ductile “cap” of material to protect the coated part. This “cap” will not crack or flake like thicker coatings can and easily withstands the pressure and heat found in the combustion chamber.

This coating can protect from damage caused by a temporary lean condition thus giving you a chance to repair the condition before it destroys the engine. Engine builders swear by this coating because it reduces detonation thus saving pistons as well as cranks and rods. One engine builder (name withheld to protect their privacy) was getting 50 passes out of a set of big dollar pistons due to cracks in the pin bore caused by detonation. Once he tried coating the pistons he have noticed that they piston life was expanded by a factor of at least 4 and some times even longer.

When it is coupled with the polytrix skirt coating the bores looked so good after the normal inspection after 50 passes that no work was needed thus prolonging the life of the block as well.

While engine builders do notice ‘some’ gain on the dyno there as so many variables that we cannot in good faith say you will get X number or percent HP gains. There will be some but your set up will determine how much.

Polytrix is a Thermally Bonded Dry Film Lubrication Coating. This Coating reduces friction and provides protection during initial startup as well as during momentary loss of oil pressure. This Micro Thin film (less than .0005) means that parts DO NOT have to be re-clearanced once coated like they do with other coatings. The coating also aids in the even movement of heat away from the part making it a natural benefit for valve springs. The coating is capable of providing lubrication under extreme pressures in excess of 250,000 psi. This coating is designed to cure at 300 F. so as not to affect the metallurgical structure of the coated part.

Engine builders report to us that using this coating on piston skirts reduces wear on the skirt as well as the block. There are power gains to be made here with the reduced friction but the amount will vary with engine setup and from engine to engine so we cannot in good faith give you a number.

When used on multi coil valve springs it will reduce the friction caused by the coils rubbing on each other. This friction causes heat which is the enemy of your spring.
